New Outlook opens multiple windows on its own
This is a known bug with the new version of Outlook that users are reporting globally. Our recommendation is to uninstall this version of Outlook and use the browser version instead. You can do this on your own by following the steps below.- In the search bar at the bottom of your screen, type "Apps" and open the Apps & Features menu.
- In the list of apps, select Outlook (new) and click Uninstall. Wait a few moments and then you can close out the Settings menu.
- If you still have the Windows Mail icon (blue envelope) on your taskbar, you'll want to remove that. This all started when the Mail app began automatically installing and redirecting to the new Outlook app. If you open the Windows Mail app again, Outlook will be installed again, and you'll be back in the same situation. So if you have the blue envelope icon on your task bar, right-click it and select Unpin from Taskbar. If not, you can skip this step.
- To access the browser version of Outlook, open Microsoft Edge and go to office.com and sign in.
- Once signed in, you will be navigated to the Microsoft 365 homepage, and on the left side of the screen, you will see the Outlook icon. Click it to open your mailbox.
- For future access, you can bookmark Outlook or even create a desktop shortcut. To create a shortcut, highlight the entire URL in the address bar at the top, then click and hold to drag it out to your desktop, where a shortcut will be created automatically.
